How do I change the "Account Owner" profile?

By default, the "Account Owner" is the person who initially setup the school's Montessori Compass account. The Account Owner is an Administrative-level user that can access all features of the system. 

Actively Using Account Owner Profile 

The Account Owner is oftentimes the Head of School, Director, or other school administrator that manages the school's MC account. It is NOT necessary to create a secondary user profile. In most cases, it is recommended to use the Account Owner profile for your day-to-day work. If you maintain both an Account Owner profile and an alternate admin/teacher profile on your MC account - this can create confusion in your school community (e.g. your name will be listed twice for messaging, calendar, photos, etc.)

Generic Account Owner Profile

You may wish to maintain a generic Account Owner, that is not used on a day-to-day basis. In this case, it is recommended to give the Account Owner a generic name/email address. This name will display in your account, but if it is generic it is unlikely to cause confusion. 

Example:

XYZ School

Jane Doe - Head of School

Account Owner Profile could be given generic name of "School Administrator" with a corresponding generic email "admin@yourschool.com". Jane could then maintain an Administrative user profile using her real name and email address for day-to-day use.

Changing the Account Owner to New Person

There is only one Account Owner for each school account. Therefore, if you wish to make changes it must be done through the current Account Owner user profile. Click the "My Profile" link from the dropdown menu under your name in the upper left. You may change the name, email, and password. This new person will now assume the Account Owner profile. The new Account Owner can now create a new Admin or Teacher level profile for the former Account Owner. 

As with any user profile, the email address must be unique. Therefore, if you are switching the Account Owner profile into the name of someone that already has an active user profile, you will need to use a different email address. To use the same email address, it will first be necessary to either change the prior profile's email address or delete the profile altogether. Keeping historical data on old profile

If you need a current User to assume the Account Owner role, you may be concerned about losing any data associated with the previous User profile. But since the Account Owner is an administrator-level user that has full access to all features of MC, the only data that would be unique to the former Teacher or Administrator profile would be messaging. Prior to deleting the new Account Owner's old profile, you should have them check their Inbox. If there is information they wish to keep, it is not required that you delete the profile. But you can't use the same email on two different profiles. Therefore, if you wish to retain historical data, we recommend changing the name to a generic name that will not confuse any member of your school community. 

The old profile could be given generic name of "School Administrator" with a corresponding generic email "admin@yourschool.com." Jane could then maintain an active Account Owner user profile using her real name and email address for day-to-day use. Remember, the email does not have to be valid, it just has to be unique to serve as the username for the profile.
